We finally made it! Well.. Mother India Crochet Queens did! I just held it's tail at the last moment and became a part of the achievement! With a display of 58917 crochet sculptures on 21st January 2018 MICQ broke the earlier record by UK who had a record of 13 thousand something items on display 4 years back! For about the last 6-7 months, about 360 officially amazing queens from all over the world have been crocheting these items (mostly late nights after finishing the day). Among the participants there are also children, boys too, both school and college students as well as respectable elderly ladies. This was the third time MICQ made a Guinness record within the past 3 years! Hats off to the founder Mrs.Subashri Natarajan, the team of hardworking and able group ambassadors and all the hardworking and creative participants! Happy to be a part of MICQ!
🙂
Here are the crochet items I contributed towards MICQ's Guinness attempt. Making 40 items, the minimum required number for participation, proved to be a big challenge and somehow I managed to stretch time enough to fit them in and submitted last day, last moment. I was down with fever whole day yesterday and couldn't make it to the event, but I attended the display fixing work at the venue the previous day and saw it all together. As photos were prohibited before the event I don't have personal pics.

N.B. I dedicate my achievement to my aunt, Notun pisi. It was in her hands I first got introduced to the world of crochet in childhood! Hathe khori onar kachei!
Here is what I shared on fb before the event:
I had never felt excited about Guinness book of world records as I thought it was nothing more than tooting one's horn. Well.. So... That was then...
As a part of an army of a few hundred Indians of the worldwide group named Mother India Crochet Queens (MICQ) we are set to make a record for the world's largest display of 3D crochet sculptures coming Sunday, Jan 21st, in Chennai. Those of my friends in Chennai do consider attending the event and supporting our attempt and the art of crochet.
The last one and half months I have been struggling with balls of yarn, a hook and the ticking time to somehow manage to contribute the minimum requirement of 40 items. Hah! So relieved now! I shall share pics of the items after the event.
Apart from letting us brag a bit, am hopeful our attempt will spread the art of crochet so more people discover it's magic and less people give a blank stare on hearing "it's crochet". Am also excited for all the connections already made and yet to be made within the group!
I am not an active member of MICQ anymore and I have lost the connections made then. But the memories are still cherishable.
